Inside the Chamber

One random trip to Walmart landed Alexis Copeland with this C. Way before Chamber, it simply started with a C.

Sometimes when a vision comes to you, it doesn't come fully formed. Sometimes it's just breadcrumbs.

The C is a symbol for many things but mainly it is an anchor to a vision. Everytime you C it you remember.

This is for my world makers! From the trip to Walmart to the painting to now a flag. Keep adding unto, keep following the breadcrumbs.

Shout out to Amy Fisher Price, a Detroit legend archiving the most memorable parts of this city through flag work, who brung this to life!

This was one of three flyers for our first event. A C sticker with a QR code that led you to our website detailing our event. Placed at Leland City Nightclub and other underground party spots in Detroit.

We also did a promo video for our event which can be found on our YT channel. Cool Fellow was inspired by Andre Stefon whose really too cool, his laid back nature invites you to explore your days without contempt but with excitement.

You can call this guy for anything and he will always approach the task at hand with a cool nature. His "no need to trip" attitude makes the hefty task of world building a breeze. 

We also did a promo video for our event which can be found on our YT channel. Lady in Red was inspired by Lorielle Walker who have such a profound way of drawing you in with her passionate nature which leaves you feeling amped!

Passion is red and Miss Walker definitely embodies that energy. Her fiery approach can fuel worlds.

Two Timer  was inspired by Alexis Copeland who has many sides and uncanny ability to show the right side at the right moment. 

A play on the Alexis/COASHIN identity. This introverted world maker knows how to pull characters out of her hat to satisfy the will of creation. A world is comprised of many characters all playing their part in the system.

Jibaro is a song by COASHIN. The video was shot at Alger Theater on Detroit's Eastside. Video originally could be found on Alexis's personal Instagram but it is now deleted and the video is safely archived as the performance artist moves into the strict realm of live performance art.

This was the night of our first event. This was one of the performances by Dirty Glove Michigan Krump Movement. They gave the crowd an energy that cannot be duplicated. This group is special and bring all the ingredients to tell a riveting story through song and dance.

Leader whom we would also consider a world maker- JT aka "Renegade" leads his group with a cool confidence but firm hand. Renegade is a world maker because when you step in a Krump session with him and team- it's easily another world. It hypnotizes you. Pure concentrated will!

Member of Dirty Glove- Glylin is a fierce storyteller. With so much to say with sometimes very few words he lets it out all through Krump. Quick controlled jerks of the body become like changes in the voice. The tone keeps getting more penetrative as he continues to speak his truth through his body.

The drum is a responsibility that Marwan carries with utmost respect and enthusiasm.

Join the Chamber's first showcase headlined COASHIN. All songs that were performed were produced, written, and choregraphed by Alexis Copeland. Unity and Raven were powerfully committed to the task of storytelling through movement, getting lost in the beat.

Each song told a story of personal inner conviction. The first song CAVE expressed COASHIN coming out to the world- a formal introduction. RED FLOWER OPERA tells the story of activating the soul through voice with intense screams and shouts all throughout the track. OFF BEAT MAGIC guides the viewer on a journey of accessing your own magic through authentic self expression. The performance ends with FREEDOM, a declaration to always fight for who you are.

The performance consisted of intense dancing, skateboarders skating on the half pipe, and Dirty Glove accompanying COASHIN on the second half of OFF BEAT MAGIC. It's exciting, intense, and deeply moving.

The way COASHIN approaches performance and storytelling is unique because there is a significant  decreased focus on making it "big" instead giving all that can be gave to the community within reach. This is art and care and ritual.

COASHIN will continue to be a force within JTC's ecosphere, grounding performance in community work, self development in community development.

Very grateful to Kaina (white shirt, yellow scarf) of Sen Morimoto for reaching out to JTC and extending Coashin the opportunity to be an opener for their Detroit show.

Sen Morimoto was such an AMAZING act and amazing is an understatement, truly. It was a great pleasure to witness their camaraderie, cohesiveness, and jazzy sensual sounds.

Painted by Alexis, not impressed with this piece. To her surprise someone at Art Night snagged it and hung it up in their home. It's always funny how some of our least favorite works are appreciated by another. It validates everyone seeing the world differently. 

Alexis decided to channel her creativity into her hair, makeup, and outfit. She curated her whole look. She designed her white jacket which was neatly sewn into fruition by Nabeela Najjar, a very talented fashion designer based in Detroit.
